During the Golden Age of Railroads smoking was viewed as a sophisticated and widely popular activity. On trains there were usually lounge cars where people could retire after a meal for a smoke. Railroads produced wonderful ashtrays both as tabletop items and as stand alone smoking stands. Most glass or ceramic tabletop ashtrays are worth less than $50, with some of the rarer ones around $200-300.
