Public Timetables were printed by the railroads for the public so that anyone could know what times trains were running to and from certain stations. The earliest timetables had elaborate and beautiful art and designs as well as classic advertisements for other businesses and travel services. These older timetables from the early days of steam are very desirable, but quite rare. It is not uncommon to find collections of 50 or 60 timetables from a single railroad come up for sale as timetables were available to the public and many people collected them even as they were printed. Early timetables with illustrations, maps, and advertisements can bring hundreds of dollars, while more recent copies typically sell for less than $10 each.
