Tickets were a rider’s pass onto the railroad and to prove you had paid your fare. Tickets were printed in large batches with serial numbers and then stamped with a date by a ticket dater. Once on the train a conductor would use a ticket punch to show that the ticket had been used. Railroads printed many different types of tickets, but the all accomplished the same goal. Prices for railroad tickets are very reasonable and even the rarest tickets are available for less than $100, making this a great area for new collectors to pursue as a way to enter the hobby.
