This was very important to operations because if too much pressure built up in the boiler the locomotive could explode. Gauges that have provenance and are identified to a specific locomotive tend to sell for a premium so any history on a gauge is important. Values for gauges vary based on condition, size, type of gauge, and locomotive or railroad that it’s from.
